Barley wines are traditionally hefty brews, but ours is downright excessive. The huge maltiness of this beer is only tamed by an equally prodigious addition of hops, creating a rich, slightly sweet, caramel-hued ale infused with assertive bitterness and bright hop notes, all culminating in a pleasing dryness. While it will evolve into an even more glorious brew with age, this beer's delicious onslaught of flavors will seriously challenge your ability to wait any longer to drink it.

Bottled 2/7/15. Drank 3/9/23. so, what, 8 years later?
still has good carb. pour is a murky caramel-hued beer with a nice little cap of ever so lightly khaki head.
nose is kind of muddled - maybe no surprise after 8 years, some sherry / cardboardy notes, dates, figs,
Taste has a bit of bitterness left. More than you'd anticipate. raisin, prune, some caramel/toffee. definitely some sherry / oxidization notes

Stone advised that this beer would age well, and they were right. I sat on it for five years, resisting the urge to open it several times. It was worth the wait. It's incredibly smooth. There's a lot of caramel, blended well with piney hops. It's not very bitter, not at all. Even without the 11.2 ABV, this beer is a sipper. You don't want to guzzle that abundance of flavors. Great stuff.

Bottle to snifter; aged 3+ years, 01/28/15. Bottle was picked up at Ventnor bottle shop where they had a lot of aged barleywines.
LOOK: copper color - clear, medium eggshell head. OK retention.
AROMA: cedar, oak, wine whiskey, copper-metallic.
TASTE: grape, apple, wood...lime, aspartame.
FEEL: medium to full bodied. a sipper.
really solid barleywine. maybe lacks a little sweetness that might round out the woody flavors; but still solid.
