Collaboration with Burgeon Beer Company & brewers Corey Magers and Elizabeth Bakas.
This year marks the 10th American Homebrewers Association Rally held at Stone and the hazy New England-style IPA has descended upon the craft beer industry. To put a familiar twist on this new trend, fiancés Corey Magers and Elizabeth Bakas went for an East-West hybrid, brewing a hazy hop bomb with more bitterness than a typical NEIPA. Amarillo, Citra and Mosaic hops elicit a fresh-squeezed OJ quality, in a combination of pellet hops and cryo hops for more clean flavors and less roughness.

Appearance: Bright golden color shows good clarity and holds a thin trace of a cover and halo of bright white foam.

Aroma: I get my first whiff of hops at arm's length, smelling it directly curled my nose hairs. Loads of acidic bitter hop notes, mostly West Coast grapefruit rind, with some pine, and some tropical (Hawaiian Punch) smells. There is a trace of crystal malt sweetness promising to dull the edge of the hopocalypse you are smelling, but I find myself doubting.

Taste: A surprising amount of supporting grain, with a nutty wheat thin kind of note. The hops are intense, starting grapefruit, then going tropical, then the fruity flavors burn off and the bitter starts to set in, going just slightly metallic, really more acidic, and black tea.

Mouthfeel: Medium heavy body, slick texture, hot (it burns), drying finish, low carbonation.

Overall: Big IPA. I disagree about the nomenclature of a NE IPA as to me that was an American style of English IPA, much lower hop levels than a West Coast citric and pine based flavor profile. I know the rest of the world thinks Hazy IPA as NE IPA, so, potato, potatoe. This wasn't hazy so I didn't really think of it that way, and reading the bottle they seem to be trying to blend a NE IPA with a West Coast IPA with some non-US hop additions. We may need an "International IPA" class soon, and when we do this should place very well. It's juicy, punchy, and solid enough to have a slight chew. It's got more burn than a NE IPA lover will like, but if you like hoppy IPAs this is the standard nice work you expect from Stone, just different hops.

After note: The last pour was filled with hop particulate, all the hazy was in the bottom of the bottle. It was a little much, would recommend a light rousing before pouring.

Rated 5/2/2020. Picked up a bottle in July 2019 when we went to the brewery/brewpub in San Diego. Stone knows how to brew a strong hoppy beer without too much bite, and this is a very good one. Had in my beer cellar for a while. 70 IBUs

Appearance – The modest white head was somewhat dense and topped the thick pale body.

Smell – The strong English biscuit and mild caramel that I look for in the style are here along with the big hopping you expect from this brewery. They did however stay away from the big West Coast hop slam found in most of their other offering. There are some massive straw and grass notes here along with some rindy orange peel.

Taste – Those biscuity malts come on strong at the taste and the citrus is stiff but perfectly unsweet as the style requires. Hops are of course big but well-blended and balanced rightly with the malt.

Mouthfeel – Solid medium-bodied with some drying but otherwise not bitter, especially compared to other Stone entries.

Drinkability – Amazing beer! They managed to make a big EIPA that stayed true to the style guidelines.

On tap at Echo Tap & Grille in Mountainside. Pours a golden, effervescent hue with moderate frothing. Ardent aroma replete with hints of citrus and grapefruit. Similar overall flavor profile.

Pours a slightly hazed gold with 2 fingers of pearl colored head. Insane lacing, very good head retention

S: Mostly catty/weedy with just a little citrus peel

T: A little grapefruit pith, sweet breadyness/cakeyness, orange & little lime, cattyness, plus a little dryness up front. Sweet orange, a touch of dankness, a little pine, dryness once warm, a little pineapple as well. Finishes with pine, a little sweet orange & grapefruit, plus lime & dryness, a little papaya shows up late to the party

MF: Medium body, fairly restrained carbonation; fantastic balance, milkshake texture to this as well

Easily the best hoppy offering I've had from stone in a while. Would buy this if sold as a 4 or six pack without hesitation, so drinkable

From the 22 oz bottle in a snifter. This excellent brew pours a lightly
cloudy glowing deep amber with a fantastic head of white foam that
settles to a thick ring, thick clumping layer, and shows excellent lacing.
Nose of orange zest, floral hops, herbal hops, mango, light pine, pineapple,
and honey sweet malts. Flavors follow the nose with light pine over a
layer of pineapple, orange zest, mango, nice herbal and floral hop notes,
sweet honey malts, and a lemon tinged citrus flavor with warmth.
Excellent mouth feel; medium body, smooth, lightly crisp, refreshing
as can be, medium light carbonation, and a sweet and hoppy
BALANCED finish that is most excellent.

Overall, a fantastically balanced NEIPA with a hybrid flair.

Cheers

Big juice bomb. Great color and nose but the mouthfeel is what makes it exceptional. California can do New England. Go figure.

Poured out of a 22 oz. bomber bottle into one of my tulip glasses, this beer pours a slightly cloudy/hazy medium golden color with lots of streams of little bubbles very rapidly and continuously rising to the beer's surface along with a white head that's an inch thick when first poured that settles to a good 2/3 of an inch thick a few minutes after being poured. Good head retention and excellent lacing. Aromas of some bready malts that gives way quickly to big citrus aromas of tangerine and orange rind, floral, and slightly piney hops. The taste is pretty much the same, with some bready, herbal, grainy malts that are quickly followed by big citrus flavors of tangerine and orange rind along with some nice hints of mango and melon that's followed by some floral and piney hop notes. Has a very juicy hop presence. Really nice mix of the different flavors here. Has a mainly crisp, somewhat chewy, also frothy and smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Easy to drink in the way good beer ought to be, and the citrus hop flavors really sit nicely on the palate after each sip. Another winner from Stone!

Picked up a bomber from TW Arrowhead 11-13-18 for $7.99. Bottled on 10-5-18; enjoy by 1-19-19; consumed on 2-8-19. Whoops on the age thing...

Beer poured golden orange with a nice white head that has some good hang time.

Nose is fresh orange and grapefruit forward in the WCIPA style.

Taste is orange dominated with grapefruit in the back seat over a medium malt base. Finish is a healthy citrus zest bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and pretty smooth.

Overall a solid brew that i am glad to have tried.

22 oz bottle. Pours hazy dark orange gold with a medium frothy white head that retains fairly well and laces the glass.

The aroma is a bit subdued - fruity resiny hops.

The flavor is sweet sugary tropical fruit and malt with a big piney resiny bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice NE DIPA.

22oz bottle dated 10/13/18.

Pours clear copper with a slight chill haze and an inch of white head. Orange zest with grapefruit pith in the nose with some faint cardboard. Medium bodied with a sticky mouthfeel. Grapefruit with orange pith on the palate with some balancing malt and a fairly big bitterness. Finishes dry with lingering pithy citrus and wet paper.

Pretty stale and faded despite not having reached its best before date.
