Here's another interesting brew made with a hop I never heard of. It's actually new this fall, officially called "Sabroâ„¢ brand HBC 438" from the geniuses who brought us Citra and Mosaic. The Southwest native hop is in the bloodline. Clear golden amber poured from the 32 oz crowler filled at Stone's Kettner tasting room.
This tastes bafflingly complex, something vegetal, something fruty, something from the Chinese herb shop. And then after a couple of sips, it's pure coconut. Never tasted anything like it. Plenty bitter aftertaste, but not excessive. It's like some kind of wine, then a Champagne cocktail, then a night at Trader Vic's. Hot lime, hints of cherry stems, avocado, green pepper, and an aftertaste of tangerine peel.
