A few of our brewers took a side trip to the famous Tianshan Tea City market to experience the legend themselves. They were blown away. Inspired, they began experimenting back home, learning how well the delicate, floral qualities of these teas worked in combination with certain hop varieties. This imperial IPA loaded with White Tea is the result of that bountiful trip and the resulting experimentation. The amazing aromas and flavor profile of this beer are witness to the joy of experimentation and a testament to making time for side trips.

Bottle poured into a Stone Brewing Co pint glass
A: Pours slightly hazy golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.
S: Floral, grassy, slightly resinous herbal notes, citrus, stone fruit, underlying tropical fruit, bready malt, and a touch of caramel sweetness.
T: Floral, herbal, grassy, definitely getting a nice touch of tea, stone fruit, apricot and peach, citrus, lemon, orange, and a hint of grapefruit, tropical notes, papaya, pineapple, mango, and passion fruit, bready malt, and caramel sweetness.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.
O: I'm usually more of a coffee fan than tea so I wasn't sure how much I was gonna like this one, but I gotta say, everything comes together quite nicely. This is the kind of beer I've been wanting Stone to put out for the last few years. They get to satisfy their Loral obsession, but actually be somewhat adventurous with it.

Clear yellow brew with modest foam in the Chimay chalice. Sharp and alcohol tasting. Doesn't smell like much at first, but nose is earthy and perfumey. White tea is virtually tasteless in my experience, so the aromatics are important. There is some bitterness but hops are in the background.
Sweet and herbal flavors, even a little woody in the finish. Fruity hints of melon and canned peaches. This is quite sippable, though the candy taste gets a little tiresome. But an interesting concept in flavoring beer. From the 12 oz bottle.

12oz bottle, tulip, bottled 10/27/20.
Rather iced green tea-like appearance with a rushing whitish head.
Earthy and green like a garden. Definitely notes of tea. Herbal and floral.
Bitter orange oil, earl grey, green twig, lemongrass. It has a nice stiff orange pith bitterness.
Nice medium body leaning toward slick with scrubbing carbonation. It’s also dry.
West coast style with an interesting twist.

Poured into a tall clear pint glass. Beer has an deep amber color and is somewhat hazy. Decent retention and lacing, about a finger's worth of head.
Aroma: pretty sweet, tropical, and citrusy. Notes of pear, white grapes, melon, papaya, mango, pineapple, peach, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, honeysuckle, a little bit of vanilla, sweet caramel malt, and of course tea leaves.
Tea flavor is very faint and vague, otherwise primarily citrusy. Tasting some stone fruit and raspberries, and mainly tasting grapefruit and other citrus notes. There is a slight sweet presence from all the notes mentioned in the aroma, but isn't too prominent. Body is medium-light.

Pours a slightly hazed gold with a pinky of cream colored head. Above average head retention & lacing
S: Mango & leafy hops, grapefruit late
T: Mango, pine, grapefruit, dryness & leafy hops up front. More mango as this warms, cakeyness, leafy hops & a little white pepper as this warms. Finishes dry, with grapefruit, a & little spicy pepper
MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation, nice balance
An okay DIPA from a brewery that seems making just okay beers these days. I would happily drink this, but wouldn't seek it out

Peach, mango, a bit of dank aroma
Mango flavor, a bit of bread, a hint of tea
Medium bodied with good carbonation
I like it, not that much in the way of tea

12oz bottled 10-27-20, best by 2-24-21. Opened 12-4-20.
2 finger dense and off-white head, great retention.
Golden and slightly hazy to start. Thick, clinging lacing.
Earthy and fruity hops. Delicate nose, some weedy notes and dried orange peel.
Leafy, herbal, coconut, earthy, I feel like I can taste the white tea or is it just subliminal...? Good regardless.
Bright entry/mouthfeel. Medium-minus body, appropriate carbonation.
Unique, nice surprise, big fan.
Very Good to Outstanding.
