A one-time release from Stone, I'm lucky to have a taste. Made from propagating lager yeast for their black lager coming up, it was made from mixing a few different types of worts. As an experimental beer, it defiitely was unique.

A: Nice dark brown, amber, with a touch of red; mostly white foamy head that dissipated very slowly.
S: Typical Stone aroma - flowery hops, with a tough of sweetness.
T: Lacking the fruitiness/esters found in the ales; spicy bitternes is pretty strong; hop flavor is there, but bitterness prevails.
M: Nice body to it it; carbonation was good level, and was above being thin. Not thick like some of the ales, but more feel to it than the Levitation.
D: Overall, a very drinkable beer. Alcohol was their typical above average (6.8% according to the blog & growler label), but easy to drink a few in one sitting.

A good one, and in the end, it was like a beer that was confused about what it was, which made it fun to drink. Still, I'd probably go for some of their others first.

Growler obtained via Growling at the Moon from d0gnate. Arrived in one of the cool Stone flip-tops that look like there's no way it holds 2L, until it does... Thanks for the opportunity.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" tan head over the almost opaque orangey brown brew. Frothy head recedes gradually, with long-lasting lace. Aroma is negligible, no matter how many times I check.

Taste starts a touch worty, richly malty in the middle without being overly sweet, and closes cleanly with moderate mitterness. Mouthfeel is very smooth, and drinkability is excellent.

They had it on tap in the store yesterday, so I got a fill of it as I missed out during So Cal Storm.

A: The pour is a dark brown/amber color with a thin layer of off-white foam.

S: The nose is the typical Stone hoppiness with a nice floral aroma. There is a bit of sweet malt to the smell as well.

T: Pretty similar to the nose. You can pick up a bit of the vanilla, but it's not overpowering. The floral hops provide a bit of bitterness on the end, but this one is still quite sweet.

M: Light bodied, goes down smooth.

D: An interesting take on a lager, and Stone's first, nonetheless. An interesting beer that I'm glad I was able to try.

Growler filled last night of Stone's most recent creation.

A: Poured a rich brown/amber with off-white, dense head layer.
S: A hint of the familiar Stone hop profile, but mainly euro/german maltiness. A bit of wheat aroma pokes through, too.
T: Subtle hops. Really tastes almost like a marzen, or maibock. Crisp malt flavors here. Unlike any Stone beer I've had before. Reminds me of Levitation's german cousin or something.
M: Tongue coating flavors, light body. Smooth finish.
D: A complex and highly drinkable lager. A welcomed departure from the normal Stone offering, not that there is anything wrong with all the other beers they offer. I like how this beer isn't too big or in your face. Great brew just in time for a warm San Diego summer.

Pours a dark brown. Off-white foam head. Smelled really interesting, with ... hops? ... vanilla, and oak notes.

I was told that this was made with leftover yeast from the black pilsener. Intriguing, would love to buy it more often. The taste was complex, earthy, with some vanilla and oak. The hop profile is present, and there's an earthy, hoppy bitterness to it.

I really can't think of another beer to compare it to.
