Pours a light amber color, 1/3" off white head. The Belma hop hasn't made much of an impression on me, not sure if it is really an "ipa" hop in light of some of the recent proprietary strains that are just exploding in acreage and popularity. There wasn't much here in terms of aromatics as expected. Some mild amounts of grapefruit and even lesser hint of pineapple/pine.
Taste, there is a hit of crystal malt and a middle of the road bitterness, not really a dry mouth feel to this one, still has that grapefruit and caramel in a light way. Bitter light grassiness. I didn't dislike the beer, but I didn't fall in love with it. Just not sure if Belma has a significant future as an IPA hop, this beer had some elements of an ESB, maybe that is its future. There's often a lot of strawberry talk with Belma, but it just didn't pan out that way for me here, and almost every other Belma time. Its decent, would like maybe a lighter malt bill to get more familiar with Belma without any additional interference, perhaps a tad more carbonation.
