This is a 2012 release of Crime, a blend of Arrogant Bastard, OAKED Arrogant Bastard and Double Bastard Ale (aka Lucky Bastard Ale) with a variety of chili peppers added. This is part of the Quingenti Millilitre bottlings, corked and caged.
Pours a light and slightly hazy sherry brown. There is a very fast khaki head that forms and immediatley disappears - something I've never seen - form on pouring and then nothing.
Nose is assertive chili pepper with undertones of malt and carmel. However, the chili nose almost overpowers all else. Scotch Whiskey tones do come through in the nose as the beer warms to room temperature.
Mouthfeel is big and rich with light carbonation and seemingly well balanced. However, a few seconds in the mouth and the hot chili character takes over and pretty much over powers all else. There is no finesse to this at all.
Flavor profile is relatively simple malt and carmel tones but, again, overpowered by hot chili that over powers any complexity to flavor profile. There is a pine oil bitter in the back palate and the hot chili hits in the front and mid palate and on the front of your tongue. There is a hint of Scotch Whiskey but perhaps only because your looking for it - I do think it's there but well hidden underneath the hot chili, burning on your tongue.
Finish is a pine bitter but the hot chili persists through the finish.
