Vintage 2016

Appearance: Pours coffee colored without carbonation; no lacing

Smell: Chocolate, Bourbon, vanilla and maple aromatics

Taste: It doesn't take long for the Bourbon to make a statement, subsuming the chocolate, vanilla and maple flavors; long and strong, with the Bourbon in the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with no carbonation; warmth in the gullet

Overall: Clearly well past its prime, but the flavors still don't seem well-balanced

snagged this in a recent swap. always a fan of dark horse and maple bourbon...? sounds good to me. had side by side with the bourbon 6 legs.

super powerful in your face barrel. the maple is glazed over big bourbon and oak, but I prefer the maple dominance in the 6 legs over this one which is just too heavy on the booze.

A: Very dark brown with light brown ring around head
S: Bourbon, charred oak, sweet chocolate, german chocolate cake, hint of raisin, vanilla, maple, brown sugar, bananas foster. Smells much more intense than an 8% beer.
T: Balanced bourbon, dry oak, bitter baker's chocolate, sweet maple, alcohol, roasty, molasses
M: Medium-heavy mouthfeel with a coating effect
O: Exceeded my expectations, the barrel character melds very nicely with the base. There is enough bourbon and roast to balance out any sweetness from the maple and malt.

Love that this is a 12 oz format!

Smells amazing. No lace, nice ring of foam around the edge. Definitely tastes north of 10%...definitely higher than the labeled 8.25%... not too much maple on the taste but definitely there on the smell. Nice moderate amount of bourbon/vanilla as well as some chocolate in the flavor. Very drinkable as well. Can't wait to try this 6 pairs of legs. Nicely done.

Appearance - Very dark, some brown colored head made an appearance

Smell - Maple bourbon chocolate covered raisins (if such a thing existed) simply divine.

Taste - Vanilla and sweet bourbon (I believe this bottle is a little more than a year old) If it was hot when it came out, this has calmed nicely. The maple comes through on the finish along with those chocolate covered raisin flavors.

Mouthfeel - Medium viscosity, low carbonation. Works for me.

Overall - I just love it. The addition of the real maple syrup takes this beer to great heights. I'm a little surprised it's only at an 89 rating as I type this, this stacks up with just about any top notch BBA stout i've had. If I get another chance to try this I won't hesitate.

On tap at the Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

Pours black, deep dark black, with a small mocha colored head, about a quarter inch, and very little lacing.

Smells like maple, bourbon, chocolate, and roasted malt.

This is a fairly subtle BA job here, a little bit of bourbon flavor, not overpowering at all, with a good amount of vanilla, chocolate, and maple of course. The maple lends some sweetness to the beer, but it's not overpowering. Luckily does not become cloying.

Medium bodied, slightly thin for the style, but I guess it is a porter, after all. Creamy, smooth, velvety mouthfeel. Low carbonation, and very drinkable.

Another great BA beer from Dark Horse. The BA'ing is not quite as powerful as some of their other creations, namely BAPt5, but this is still very tasty.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black with some edge transparency. Thin khaki ring.

Smell - Maple sweetness. Chocolate. A bit of bourbon, but not too strong. Chocolate.

Taste - Lots more whiskey. Strong whiskey flavor. Oak. Maple sweetness. Roasted malts. Coffee finish.

Mouthfeel - Roasty bitterness. Medium body.

Overall - This really grew on me. I love that maple flavor.
