Pitch black and completely opaque without even the slightest trace of lighter color when held to a light sources. Frothy beige head that quickly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Sporadic spotty lacing left behind.
Very inviting aroma with a great sweet and spicy bourbon barrel presence that's nicely integrated into the porter notes. Could see how there isn't enough bourbon/booze for some but it's really nice for my preference. Some charred oak, toasted coconut and silky vanila bean along with delicate sweet bourbon spirit that thankfully doesn't obliterate the base beer. Silky chocolate malt sweetness, subtle smoke, molasses and light roast. Coffee bean, dark chocolate, tootsie roll, caramel and toffee. Not to complex or extreme but is nicely balanced and pretty inviting.
Medium body with a barrel presence that's slightly stronger than expected. Lots of sweet bourbon and deeply charred dry oak flavor. Some toasted coconut but the smoother barrel notes found in the aroma aren't really there. Decent amount of alcohol flavor but not overly hot or boozy. Subtle roasted malt but a bit more than in the nose. Burnt toast and light roasted coffee countered by sweeter dark malt notes. Again some tootsie roll sweetness along with molasses, fudge, bakers chocolate and caramel. Not too complex or intensely flavored but this is a nice BA porter that's nicely balanced and easy to drink.
