12 oz bottle sent from superspak, thanks buddy.
Carpe Brewem Snifter

Pours a ruddy amber-brown with a very thin ring of head, thinning out to loose bubbles around the glass.

Aroma is a wonderful mixture of amaretto, leather, tobacco, figs, caramel, vanilla, neapolitan dried ice cream, faint grass, faint evergreen, and chewing tobacco pot.

Flavor brings hot ethanol, slight caramel, red twizzlers, dried apricot, chewing tobacco, leather, bourbon oak, and old very dry figs. Each flavor here seems to be cut in half by water which cuts down on busy-ness but also depth.

Feel is hot and thin, with some moderate stickiness and residual alcohol heat.

Overall, I have never been a huge fan of Scotty Karate, even the BBA version, and I think it's simply the base beer that doesn't do it for me. Still, if you ARE a fan, this is a terrific spin on the beer. Highly recommended for fans of Scotty.

Interesting colored body, brown with a rosé-like tinge; head quickly dissipates to nothing. Smell comes across like a piece of chocolate covered cherry candy and cough syrup. The taste mimics the smell, just a bit bolder; some bourbon barrel notes; a little boozy. Heavy body; flat and oily; alcohol warmth; dry and sweet.

This is an interesting beer, but I'm not sure if it's a good sample of what the brewery intended. The real cons are the total lack of any head and the candy and medicinal smell. The pros show up with the flavor, bringing out notes of amaretto and bourbon. Not exactly recommended yet it may have its appeal to other beer drinkers.

The pour didn't produce the kind of head and lace I would expect, maybe it was too cold. Little head and settled to a light ring of tiny bubbles. Light haze and dark brown color but looks thin. Smells great amaretto and cherries but almost too much. Taste follows nose but I miss the bourbon barrel. It may have been there on the first sips but clashed, then it seemed to smooth out. The mouthfeel distracts from the taste. Feels thin and has too much bite in the carbonation. Not sticky but I wish it was a bit. I think this bottle wasn't properly stored and it effected looks and taste, at $5.99 for one 12oz, overall , meah.

12 ounce bottle into snifter, 2018 vintage. Pours fairly hazy very dark ruby reddish brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big amaretto, cherries, raisin, plum, fig, apricot, peach, pear, red apple, fruit pits, almond, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, licorice, cocoa, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, amaretto flavor, fruity yeast, moderate bourbon barrel, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge amaretto, cherries, raisin, plum, fig, apricot, peach, pear, red apple, fruit pits, almond, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, licorice, cocoa, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, amaretto bitterness; bourbon/oak tannin spiciness, and slight amaretto tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of amaretto, cherries, raisin, plum, fig, apricot, peach, pear, red apple, fruit pits, almond, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, coconut, licorice, cocoa, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, amaretto flavor, fruity yeast, moderate bourbon barrel, and light earthy hop flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness, bourbon/oak spiciness, and amaretto tartness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness, amaretto tartness, and bourbon/oak spiciness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready/grainy, and lightly slick/sticky/tangy/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild lingering warmth of 11%, with no barrel booze lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic flavored barrel aged scotch ale. All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, amaretto flavor, fruity yeast, moderate bourbon barrel, and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mildly bitter/tart/tannic/drying finish. Amazing balance of rich malts, amaretto flavor, and fruity yeast; with nice overall bourbon barrel presence/integration that isn't overdone. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on base style example as expected. I can see some people thinking the amaretto is too overpowering, but I thought it worked perfectly with the fruity Scottish yeast profile of the base beer.
