Described as the best beer they have ever made by the waitress. So here goes nothing!

A-very dark caramel color with white head.
S-very sweet. Cant pick up many hops here
T-well balanced. Not a total assualt of hops. Enough malt to balance ot out. Leaves a wonderful aftertaste.
M-medium body that goes down smooth
D-wow at 16% this is crazy drinkable. Already almost dome with my glass!

What a fantastic high gravity brew! This is essentially quadruple crooked tree and is apparently closer to 19% abv. This screams out citrusy floral grapefruity flavors but hides the alcohol very well. I really hope this is not going to go away because I personally much prefer it to Dogfish 120 minute.

Went to the Darkhorse Taproom and was amazed to see this still on tap since I know it was on for the 4elf party almost 3 weeks ago. Came in a 10oz snifter for $7

A- Dark Orange, hazy, with a nice thick white head that left little lacing as it warmed.

S- Very sweet with a side of hops, I would think this more an english barleywine from the smell rather than a IIIIPA or whatever you want to call it.

T- Very big malt backbone, lots of sweetness and not enough hop bite to keep it well balanced, I really liked it but the wife thought it was too sweet. I could not taste the alcohol through the sweetness and at 16% it should be very noticable.

M- Thick, Sticky, definately something to sip and savor.

D- I could have gone for another snifter but not much more than that. Something I would definately suggest to try but not something I see alot of people enjoying.

Reviewed from notes.

Pours an amber-brown color with a thin white head and some spots as it goes down. The nose explodes with strong citrus and pine aroma. Good amount of grapefruit and citrus rind as well as a lot of resin. Definitely a bit of sweet malt in the background as well. The flavor is quite bitter and pungent, though it doesn’t seem too far over the edge because there is quite a bit of sweetness there as well. Mouthfeel falls victim to this, as the bitterness and sweetness don’t quite meld, though the former still comes out on top. Along with that, there’s some booze in there, but not nearly as much as there could be considering the alcohol content. Glad I got to try this, but a few ounces was more than enough.

On tap at Hopcat 2/25/11. Had to try this one.

Poured into a tulip glass and yields a brown color with a pinch of red. It seems cloudy with not much head. Virtually no lacing, this isn't very exciting to look at.

I am surprised by the amount of fruit that is in the smell. Cherry and maybe some raspberry with a very subtle pine hop. I'm guessing pine but it is hard to tell. I'll just say there is some sort of hop in the scent. Oh yes, and a good deal of malt in the smell.

This does not taste like an imperial IPA. It tastes more like an Imperial fruit beer with flavors of strawberry, cherry, and raspberry amidst all kinds of malts. There is just a touch of hop presence helping to reduce the malt overload. I also detect some roasty character along with leather. Despite all these strange tastes, the flavor is good.

Smooth in the mouth with a low amount of carbonation. Medium to full on the tongue. The aftertaste is mellow and rather nice.

Wow, this does not at all seem like 16%. For that, Drinkability gets an exceptional grade. By far the easiest drinking 15%+ beer that I've had.

A big thanks to jale for bringing this to Sean's 30th Birthday Extravaganza! Although it says 16% ABV here, I seem to remember that ours was something like 18.9%, but I could be wrong.

A - Amber colored beer with a small white head that left a little bit of stick.

S - Smells of sweet citrus hops and pine. This is a very potent smelling beer, which you would hope given the ABV on it. Also quite malty with some sugar.

T - A lot of malt and a lot of hops. It's just a touch on the sweet side, with some sugar and malt backbone coming through. Hops are fruity with some citrus, and a little bit of bittering resin on the end. I might have been drunk already from Dark Lord variants, but didn't get much booze from this and it went down way too easily.

M - Medium bodied, pretty smooth, active carbonation.

O - Pretty good beer with a lot of flavor and dangerously drinkable. I'd do it again, but so much alcohol means you aren't going to be drinking a whole lot else.

Tried this years ago and randomly came across the notes I took on it.
Huge body and aroma. Everything I like about Dbl Crooked Tree but amped up and became more candied in sweetness, but the malts were deeper and more intense.
Very barleywine-like but with a candied hop-like citrus and sweetness

Appearance: Dark hazy orange with a light head

Smell: sweet grapefruit, malt and slight hops

taste: The sweetness and hop bitterness hit you almost simultaneously. grapefruit like sourness lingers at the back sides of your tongue. I taste some caramel malt. Alcohol, where is the alcohol. I can feel it yet can't perceive much.

Mouthfeel: not as thick as expected. This lingers in the mouth longer than most, hence affecting more taste receptors.

Drinability: Yea right. At 16 percent how many can you handle. I would like another but...

on tap at hawthornes in philly

Pours a dark hazed caramel color with some brownish tints. Thinner beige head, spotty film retains on top and rings of lacing left behind.

Floral and citrus hops in the nose, juicy tropical fruit explodes. Pineapple, apricot, orange, slight alcohol warmth but not much considering the ABV. Caramel malt sweetness as well.

Dry and bitter up front, doused with citrus fruit juice and pith. Very fruit forward and leaning towards the tropical end of the spectrum. Similar to the nose, more pineapple, apricot, and some grapefruit. Nice malted backbone, bready with caramel and some syrupy sweetness. Finishes dry, bitter, and sweet with a spike of booze.

Fuller medium body, lighter carbonation, sticky and dry on the tongue. Drinks nicely, although I sensed more fruit flavor rather than a boozy, bitter hop attack. Somehow, the 16% isn't really all that detectable, especially when compared to double crooked tree or DFH 120 minute.

The last of my coherent reviews from Sean's debaucherous birthday bash. Served alternately from a plastic cup and out of a hollowed-out watermelon. Apparently this is actually closer to ~18.5% but is listed at 16% for legal reasons. Previously known as Double Double Crooked Tree.

A - Abundant creamy big tan foam with surprisingly excellent retention for the ABV. Lightly hazed amber body, and very thick and viscous looking.

S - Pineapple, tropical fruits, sugar, and a faint whiff of alcohol that doesn't nearly imply the actual booze content. It's very sweet, but doesn't get overly cloying and saccharine.

T - Taste is not as good unfortunately - it seems they ran out of tricks to hide the alcohol. Some bitter and harsh fusels mingle with tropical fruit flavors and sugar.

M - Lower carbonation than you'd expect from the appearance. Full-bodied, viscous, and super resinous, with very little alcohol heat or warmth.

D - I had low expectations for an 18%+ quadruple IPA and this surpassed pretty much all of them. This also probably caused my barbaric hangover the next morning. I'm curious how this was when it was super-fresh, as I think this was nearly 6 months old.

I had this on tap at the Dark Horse 4elf party. I believe this was initially called Double Double Crooked Tree, making this technically a quadruple IPA. Or actually a barleywine. Whatever, Super Juice was much more drinkable than I thought it would be, I don't know how Dark Horse hides the alcohol in these huge beers.

The 10oz pour came in a plastic cup (...), turgid orange, very hazy, nice wet looking white foam. A very strong hops presence in the nose, lots of sweetness too. Sugar and pungent citrus mostly, maybe a little alcohol, a small sprinkling of cat piss (a good thing, at least I've learned to appreciate it).

This tastes much sweeter and less hot than I thought it might, although there is still some burn (how could there not be?). Huge flavors, strong on hops but plenty of malt providing intense but not cloying sweetness, still presenting as a DIPA more than a barleywine. It feels like this could become a barleywine if aged for a few months, the malts just seem capable of taking over.

Thick, oily body, sticky mouthfeel. Very glad for the opportunity to try it.
