This beer is a strong red color with ruby and garnet hues and some shades of brown in the body. The head is a tan one that stands not quite a finger tall, shows good retention, and leaves mostly spotty lacing with some creamy legs.
While a very impresicely defined and unspecific style, MBBC's version seems to keep with the intended spirit, combining the hops and malt balance of something like, say, a Bock with purely American ingredients and influence with the resulting strength and ABV. It's got lots of hops bitterness, leafy, piney, and earthy, along with citrus zest/rind, and some big malts bringing some biscuit, must, and sweetness to counter and complement well. The heat is certainly noticeable, and it packs a punch, but it doesn't get harsh or build up astringency.
The body is full but still somewhat bright, bitingly crisp and moderately smooth at the same time. The finish lingers with a semi-dry feel and a bit of hops bitterness.
