Gazing into my pint glass I see a healthy black brew that does not allow light to pass. A smallish off-white head is present. Smell (although on the weak side) is of chocolate and roasted malt, with a bit of coffee. Black patent malts are immediately apparent with a burnt, slightly acrid taste taking the lead. A slight coffee and chocolate taste follows, backed by some big roasted malt flavor. Hops are present in the finish, although they are heavily masked by a big grain bill. My biggest disappointment, however, is the mouthfeel. It is a little thin, especially for the beer to be called Heavy Stout. Although I like big chewy stouts, the lighter body allows this stout to be easily quaffed, and you will see it disappear quicker than you think.
