The name says it all for this dark and robust porter. Earthy hops are used to balance the big malt bill, which make it a perfect beer to enjoy during this fall and winter season.

Maybe it was just sitting after the pour and store, but this one did change a little on transfer to the growler. The only difference was that it lost a little of the underlying notes in the flavor. Otherwise, the review is the same.
This brew is black with dark brown hues. It doesn't have a huge head, but the largest I've seen from a MB offering. It even leaves some lacing in a few small patches down the glass.
Holy smoke! Seriously, this is one smoky beer. Heavy mesquite on the nose. There's even more than just a touch of smoked sausage in the aroma. Interesting.
The taste is exactly what I expected from the nose. There's a hops presence (I forget how many IBUs, but pretty decent actually), but it's dominated but the smoked malts. Pretty much all it is consists of that huge malt back giving a flavor initially of smoked sausage giving way to a nice woody flavor underneath. The finish is like smoked hops, because both flavors are there and the hops makes the effort to linger the whole way.
This is a smooth beer with a medium body and very, very light carbonation.
Wow. You really have to like things smoked to appreciate this beer, but props for nailing it exactly.
