Appearance - 4.0
Smallish beige head over a very dark brown body.
Smell - 4.0
Overripe fruit, caramel.
Taste - 3.5
Chocolate and toffee are there in this malty brew, as well as a fruity, boozy character from the highish ABV. Quite medicinal in the middle.
Mouthfeel - 4.0
Fine, almost creamy carbonation, quite light in the mouth.
Drinkability - 3.0
Not something I'd keep coming back to, but not hard to drink either.
OVERALL - 3.7
A big beer, bigger than Graystone Reserve. Very tasty.

Appearance - Almost black, 2 fingers of light tan head, average retention.
Smell - Strong, lots of chocolate malt.
Taste - From the first taste, this surprises you with the unusually large quantity of chocolatey malt, to the extent that it almost tastes like a porter. There are also light fruits and spices in the background, but it has a slight medicine taste.
Mouthfeel - Smooth, good carbonation level.
Drinkability - Decent, despite the strength and ABV.
Overall - The maltiness really distinguishes this from other dunkelweizens. Pretty good beer overall.

a - Very dark brown, bordering on black, hints of light gleam through on the edges revealing a hit of mahogany hues. Large tan colored head forms very fast. Head retention is very good, lacing moderate to good.
s - Ticks most of the boxes of a classic wheat beer aroma. Primary smell suggests complex malt characteristics, dark caramel almost toffee or cocoa aroma. very faint sourness, smells almost spot on like a Munich Dunkel with the addition of some flowery hop greenery.
t - Quite brash in taste the flavors seem to muddle together all at once, quite sweet, there is no or very little transition of taste, a dominant sour taste stays present, hits of dark malts but the complex malt profile detected but the nose is somewhat lost. Cocha chocolate in there as well. Aftertaste reveals primarily a burnt charcoal taste with the hops joining in with a low bitterness and light apple skin notes. Hop flavour tastes somewhat forced, not as fresh as could be. Again the dominant sourness really skewing the possible great flavours of this brew.
m - under carbonated for a wheat beer, soft mouthfeel at first then becomes puckery and tart, not all that unpleasant however. slightly sticky on the lips, perhaps a little chemical and tinny, again possibly from the hops or a result of bottle conditioning.
d - reasonably easier to drink as it warms, the flavours become alot more co-orperative together and the beer is less harsh, not a session beer, a reasonable effort but it feels like a better more suitable yeast strain could improve it significantly. Again the sourness prevents this beer from scoring higher.
Note: Label mentions this beer is not pasturised, when i purchased this beer it was not refrigerated and this could help explain the sourness.

Tasted at the Australian Beer Festival.
Banana esters on the nose, bit of clove too.
Strongly chocolate, roasty, molasses, caramel.
Bitterness is low.
A tasty "dessert" beer for want of a better phrase. Not really good in the October heat of a beer festival....
