tasted on 8.28.08 at Volo bar in toronto.

bottle beer poured in a tulip glass.

this beer is from Sicily dated May 24, 2006. The server at Volo claimed this was the only bar in North America that actually had the beer. true or not - it was enough to get me to try it.

pours a nice golden color with a very nice head. it had a sweet malty smell - nothing to write home about.

first sip was very crisp. hit the roof of the mouth. it starts off a bit strong but immediately mellows out in the mouth. very interesting mouthfeel. didn't seem as strong as most strong ales, but overall nice flavor and nice beer - pretty smooth.

Very couldy orange appearance. White head, quite creamy.
Quite delicate smell, and fresh, floral, camomile, yellow fruit (peach and apricot), and some honey.
Less delicate taste, more on the fruity side, and it became a bit monotone. Some melon. Quite carbonated.
Again yellow fruit in the aftertaste, and honey.

Bar Volo in Toronto. Good head, clear yellow in appearence. Bubbles streaming from the bottom, responsive on swirls. A strong, pungeant aroma. Some spicy zest with a strong grainy wheat at the forefront. Flavour mostly a typical light grain and soft malts. Great drinkability with balance, and appropriate carbonation. May of wore a little thin through the course, but still a very fine offering for Italian micros and manages to be pretty appealing considering the limits of the style.
