The kolsch is Springfield Brewing Co.'s spring seasonal. I don't make my way in too often, and I'd had everything else currently on tap, so the kolsch seemed like the best choice.
Came to me in a pilsner glass, clear light straw with two fingers of fizzy, slightly foamy white head, which leaves minimal lacing. Has an overall crisp appearance, and looks quite thirst quenching.
The nose is almost entirely malt. Biscuity, caramel, with a nutty smell under it all. The flavor follows suit with sweet biscuity caramel malt up front that stays through the finish. Then the nutty flavor comes forth from the background, which was good until it turned sort of astringent about halfway through the glass.
Mouthfeel was great, being crisp and clean, light to medium bodied, with lots of little bubbles to cut through and cleanse the palate. The drinkability was hurt by the astringent flavor/mouthfeel that followed the nuttiness. It wasn't strong enough to keep me from finishing the beer, but strong enough to prevent me from ordering it again.
Overall a decent brew, but not one I'll likely order again when there are other, better options available.

Stadium pour. Straw/light copper with tiny white head. Bartender's fault, not the beer's.
Very light and crisp on the nose. Faint malts and just a touch of hops.
Taste is mostly malts, sweet with a slight vegetable vibe going. A little cloying and strange with the malts, and finally in the finish some floral hops. I wouldn't say the hops were assertive, though.
My first exposure to this style, so I'm not sure what to look for, other than if I liked it or not. I didn't. I was nice with the scores since I'm uninitiated.
