Our take on a German style wheat beer (hefe “yeast” & weizen “wheat”), this ale is light, crisp and refreshing. Unfiltered by tradition, she is a bit cloudy with a hint of citrus.

Having this beer on-tap at the brewery, as my wife are in Erie for our last night of vacation before going back home to Cleveland tomorrow. Served in a Weizen glass, this beer draws a light golden color that’s way too clear for a beer of this style. Has a white head that’s about 1/4 inch thick when first drawn and served that settles to a medium sized ring lining the inside of the glass. No surface coating is foam and barely any lacing here. Aromas of some bready malts with just a hint of banana and clove and a bit of herbal, floral hops. A pretty similar flavor profile, with some bready malts, no wheat, practically no caramel sweetness, and just a faint trace of banana and clove spice. Just the right amount of herbal and floral hops though to give some balance to the bready malts. If someone gave me this beer and said “try this” without telling me what style it is, I’d say to myself, “well, this is a pretty tasty kolsch here I am drinking here.” Not a bad beer by any means, but way off appearance, aroma, and flavor wise for a hefeweizen, that’s for sure! Has a crisp, slightly prickly, also smooth, light bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish. This beer needs a lot of work and some serious revisions.
