Pours a deep brown, bordering black. Aroma full of roasted malts, black and very malty. Taste full of black roasted malts, coffee and a touch of vanilla. Black patent malt. Astringent bitterness. More stout like than Scottish by today's standards but I can imagine this is closer kin to the old school scotch ales drank in Europe back in the day. Quite drinkable and enjoyable, roasted to the max.
