12 oz. can into a beer mug.
Pilsen Red is a slight variation on the regular Pilsen, and around the same ABV%, but uses coloring to attain a reddish-amber hue. Despite the artificiality, the bubbly body is somewhat attractive and the off-white head retains well. The aroma is that of a standard pilsner, and not much different from Pilsen or Imperial, except for a slight touch of hoppiness and more of a mineral crispness.
The flavor is slightly better than the other beers made by Cerviceria Costa Rica, but not by much. Strong presence of cereal grains and pale malts with a touch of minerals and something that tries to be "amber" in flavor, but doesn't quite attain it. The mouthfeel is crisp and bubbly, with a clean, semi-sweet finish that leaves me wanting more. Great beer to have on a hot day in Central America--Pura Vida!
