Picked this up at....you guessed it....Depanneur de la Plaza. A DIPA @ 5.5%? We'll see.

Poured from a 500ml. bottle.

Appearance: Pours a murky brown with orange shades.Lots of head that just persists, thick gobs on the sides and forms a 1-2 finger head after every subsequent pour.

Smell: Some bitter hops, very earthy and a bit of citrus.

Taste: A mix of earthy hops with lots of orange flavor. A bit of grapefruit.

Mouthfeel: Bitterness is low key, won out by the malt. Good start but ends in a whisper. Body doesn't measure up.

Overall: Decent but lacks a lot to live up to the billing of a DIPA. Sure it's only 5.5% but when you slap a double IPA on the label, you're setting yourself up for a fall if you can't deliver.

Brother gave this to me.
Hmmm... I wonder what this is going to be like. A 5.5% DIPA. Hoping for the best.

First beer I've opened with my TAPSmagazine barfly/butterfly opener. Works great.

A- Amber so dark I think it should be called brown. Big, chewy-looking beige head. Very good retention as it just sits there in the tulip.

S- first thing I notice is that ''Dham smell'' (no pun intended). Their beers often have a metallic and earthy aroma which I think might come from yeast and maybe their water too. Hops are in here too of course. Mostly grapefruit. Seems to be some brown sugar sweetness and quite a bit of alcohol for the ABV.

T- Big bitterness right up front. Very earthy. A little metallic and sour but nothing too bothersome. Not much sweetness. Earthy and grapefruit are the general hop characters present in my opinion. You can kind of taste the water in the finish.

M- High carbonation. Moderate dryness. Medium to thin feel (especially if it's supposed to be a DIPA).

O- Tastes and feels much more like a very bitter IPA than a Double IPA. Looks like some sort of mucky brown ale with head like a dubbel. Still a pretty good beer. I'd purchase one depending on the price. Might be nice on-tap.
