500ml Bottle

Appearance - The beer pours a brown colour with a small fizzy beige coloured head. I can't see much carbonation due the darkness of the beer and there is some faint lacing on the sides of the glass. The head lasted for 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Malts, roasted nuts, caramel, hops

Taste & Mouth - The beer has a below average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts mixed with a brown sugar or caramel sweetness. Like other have pointed out, I'm not really tasting any maple... odd. There is also a roasted nut flavour. it finishes with a malty slightly sweet aftertaste.

Overall – Not a bad beer by any means, just not really what i was expecting. I also think it was a little over priced for what you get. I was also disappointed with how the beer appeared in the glass. It reminded me of a flat glass of cola. I wouldn't pick this one up again.

Kind of worried to try this one for some reason. Like I have a feeling it'll be bad, part of the reason I didn't buy it the first few times I saw it in the fridge.

500ml into Taps magazine snifter.

A- Deep cherrywood. Head looks very creamy and is a beautiful light beige.

S-Very nice smell. Woody and citrus hops up front but you can stell sense the deep underlying maltiness.

T- Lots to taste in here. Caramel base with some fruit juice, citrus and grass. Some of that Brasseurs du Hameau yeast. I can't really taste any maple.

M- Body is too thin which makes it almost seem watery towrds the finish. Nice medium carbonation. Dry finish.

O- Like an American Barleywine Light™.
A lot better than I thought. Not sure I want to buy more, but I'd drink more.

Subtitled "Peluso Tony's Reserve", this seems to be a Peluso-exclusive brew from Brasseurs du Hameau. Pours a hazy, nutty mahogany colour with a nice rocky cream-white head. Lots of lacing. Pretty good looking stuff.

Fairly bready nose with yeast, lots of minerals, nutty, earthy hops, alcohol and a bit of roasty malt. Not really any maple coming through.

Since maple is advertised on the bottle I wasn't expecting much; most beers I've tried featuring maple have been letdowns. Maple doesn't really come through at all in this one, which ends up being an unexpected bonus: turns out this is a pretty decent strong brown ale. Fairly well-balanced with lots of roasty malt, toasted nuts, bread, strong mineral character and a good dose of earthy hops. The main flaw here is that the alcohol is pretty hot for 8%; it would be a big improvement if this was smoothed out more. Kind of a homebrew character to it, though one I'd be happy to drink if a friend brewed it. The label reflects this too, looking a bit like it was printed on an old dot matrix printer.

Decent medium body and moderate carbonation.

As a maple beer I'd say this is a failure as I can't detect even a trace. As a brown ale though, this is something I'd consider picking up again. Funny, I would have bought this immediately if it were advertised as something like an imperial nut brown (which is what I'd call it) but put it off for multiple visits to Peluso because the bottle says "érable" on it. Disregard the maple, it's nowhere to be found.
