Bottle #4 of 6 - Brewers' Intent 2016
Our classic Donner Party Porter, brewed Imperial style, and aged in Elijah Craig barrels for 6 months. Aromas of creamy vanilla and unsweetened chocolate are apparent, and the mouthfeel is very soft and velvet like. On the palate you'll get smooth cocoa, hints of molasses, and burnt sugar, with a finish that is smooth and dry, and a very mellow heat from the bourbon barrel.

A: Poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a dense and slightly rocky half finger of light tan head which fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing.
S: Smells of huge chocolate and oak with a little caramel, vanilla, and coffee. Sugary sweet like brown sugar at times too.
T: Taste is dark chocolate, roasted malts, espresso, charred wood, oak, caramel, vanilla, slight molasses sweetness, and a little licorice. On the finish there's more barrel, vanilla, caramel, chocolate, coffee, and roasted malts.
M: This beer is on the lighter side of medium in body and borders on being light and watery. Carbonation is effervescent and slightly prickly while the beer has a drying finish.
O: Overall this is a really nice beer. Some of the BI series really knock it out of the park and this is a good one. The barrel is a little strong and the alcohol is a little warming for being less than 10% ABV but it still drinks well. Worth a try if this one comes back.
