Had this at Strange Brew 2018 at Brewer's Cabinet in Reno. This might be the first barrel aged beer I've seen show up at that festival in its 3-4 year history.
Anyways it looks pretty similar to most Eclipse beers except for the head formation doesn't really occur here, no doubt related to the fatty oil that peanut butter has. Instead of a 1/3 - 1/2" brown head at the top it just has a thin brown film. Aroma gives a light hint of peanut butter.
Taste is a sweeter version of Eclipse for sure, that seems to be the sole contribution of any marshmallow, but it doesn't really smooth the beer out more than other less sweet barrel varieties. I would guess this is either EC or EW barrel. The peanut influence is light as it should be, but not insignificant. There is a weird bitterness to it that isn't in other Eclipse beers and is ultimately why it is less than your average Eclipse score I will guess.
Props to bringing something pricey like this to the festival, most breweries just make some stupid shit, but this was a worthy effort even if not rising to the usual levels of execution for Eclipse at the end of the day.
