Focal Ratio was discovered through collaboration between FiftyFifty, Bottle Logic, and Urban Roots Brewing. This Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout has been resting in barrels for 2 years, allowing all of the flavors of the stout to come into focus at the perfect time. With notes of dates, prunes, bakers chocolate, and hints of spicy-hot cinnamon.

Bottle Logic + 5050 (+ whatever Urban Roots is) fingers me right in the good spots. 500ML bottle of barrel aged stout, going down.
Black. Minimal life. The nose is chocolate & even after a good time resting in the bottle considering its sins, brings some heat.
Focal Ratio isn’t shy about what it is. The base stout brings the chocolate from the nose down into the palate, with lower levels of roast, dates, & a touch of blackberries. Booze is prominent but not overwhelming & the barrel is woven tastily through the components. This would be my morning cup if I was King.
No ground was broken, but this is a very nice barrel aged stout.

This was the giveaway bottle at the Eclipse party after they ran out of ideas I guess. Oh well, at least it isn't that pickle abomination they did. Anyhoo, writing the first review of this beer for BA, me, the guy who has been to every Eclipse party.
Pours black. Beige head 1/3". The aroma has a dark fruit edge to it. Smells boozy.
Ah, the taste. Man, quad squad where are you? So much dark fruit, prune, bitterness at play here. Is this what I get for 2 years in a barrel? I mean, yeah, there is a ton of roasted/chocolate malt, plenty of heavy barrel notes, like black oak/walnut fudge vibes, but jeez, its like 1000ibu and hella boozy. I don't really get this beer. Its too much. I mean, Black Gold was too much, but still 'good'. I didn't really think that of this one.
People seem to love it (elsewhere, its a barren review desert on BA), it didn't really work for me. This smacks of a huge beer that people like to split 58 ways, but when left to actually drink more than a few ounces, results wildly vary. Look at me, killing my trade value on the other remaining bottle.
