2022 vintage

It’s been years since I’ve had an Eclipse. I only have actually had one before, the honey variant. This one is adjunct free, so I’m assuming it will be a barrel focused experience. Let’s pop it open and find out what it’s all about

Pours a very dark brown with 2 fingers of creamy dark tan head that slowly fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing

I’m surprised by the rather gentle approach in the nose, it feels more fruity than sweet. I’m picking up on aromas of red grape, cocoa powder, charred oak, caramel, vanilla bean, sweey whiskey, black cherry, and light honey

It has a bit more of a boozy presence in taste but I can’t complain. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting sweet whiskey, milk chocolate, smooth oak, medium roast coffee, burnt caramel, raisin, earthy cinnamon, and light vanila. The swallow brings notes of brown sugar, sweet whiskey, toasted oak, red grape, milk chocolate, burnt caramel, and light honey

A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes mostly dry with a boozy spice

This is pretty damn good all around. Maybe I’ll have to pick up another variant some time soon

After a long layoff I’m back into the Eclipse line, now featured in 500ML bottles. At the price they’re probably a periodic purchase, at best, unless, of course…

When the electricity goes out, ever walk into an interior hallway wondering where the flashlight is, then wondering which year you last put batteries in it? The pour is like that. The nose is malty sweetness assailed by hard, unforgiving barrel.

I don’t know the Widow Jane – Imperial Eclipse Stout but she’s evidently a harsh woman. Grating, boozy bourbon (my favorite type) shakes the palate & leaves an impression at the bottom of the throat. Lots of charred oak that lends it an interesting, almost bitter component. Boozy, fusel, with a touch of chocolate on the finish. Thicker than your standard Eclipse, but I couldn’t drink more than this bottle in one sitting. But I’ll happily do that.

No fancy dance moves here. Barrel, malt, tastiness. Excellent brew.
