8oz snifter on-tap at the brewery.

A: Cloudy dark raisin amber with a thin bubbly head that left fuzzy soft looking lace.
S: Sweet brandy, booze, apples, leather and hints of piney hops. Rich smelling.
T: Tons of leather, wood, and sweet brandy, with hints of citrus, light vanilla, cocoa and sticky pine hops. I get some orange zest and green apple in the finish, with tobacco in the aftertaste.
M: Smooth mouth, thick and greasy feel, with a big body and moderate to low carbonation.
O: Dangerous drinkable. Brandy is sweet but not hot. Well integrated already, but this would age extremely well.

On Tap

Hamilton's Tavern
San Diego, CA

Dark brown with ruby edges and a very thin light brown head. This doesn't leave much behind on the glass.

A very rich, sweet aroma of toffee, caramel, dates, and chocolate-covered raisins. There's plenty of brandy and a mild oak presence as well. Pretty terrific.

The flavor follows the aroma, with the barreling having a terrific, perhaps even dominating effect on the base beer. There's lots of brandy and barrel presence, along with mild caramel and dark fruits. Moderate bitterness.

Medium to full bodied with low carbonation. Appropriate.

My favorite beer of the FiftyFifty night.

On tap at Hamilton's FiftyFifty night.

A: Dark brown with a slight red tinge. Small beige head.

S: Big brandy presence gives off strong grape, plum, and raisin characteristics. Quite fruity. I get a good amount of caramel and treacle.

T: Prune, dried date, and lots of brandy, reminding me of plums and grapes. Boozy but inoffensive. Tannic with evident oak and caramel. Moderately bitter with earthy notes. Bitter dried dark fruit finish with an increase in booziness.

M: Upper medium to lower full body with upper medium carbonation.

Overall: I was a little put off by the booze and bitterness at first but the beer really grew on me as it warmed and opened up.
