Got to sample this fine brew on tap at the brewery. Kind of a strange style for a fresh hop? Head brewer Dustin says it was intentional. They didn't want to do a fresh hop like everyone else was doing. I'd say it turned out just fine! By the way, the hops used for this were from their very own hop yard and some of the malt came from their own malt crop.
Deepest shade of brown possible with a one-finger head of foam on top.
Loads of sweet, deep roasted malt dominates the nose. There is the subtle presence of hops in the background.
Just like the nose. Sweet malt takes the cake with the fresh hops taking the backseat. Still enough hops to satisfy, but the rich malt is the star. Caramel, toffee, just a pinch of brown sugar. Really tasty. Reminds me of something Schells would do.
Very smooth, medium bodied. Light creamy texture.
Can you say outstanding session? I could drink these all night. Just an all around solid beer. Too bad this one was very limited and tap only. I think only two kegs went out to the metro area. Just a unique take on a fresh hop and perfectly executed.
