Not sure what style to call this one, but here's a description from the brewery: "A very unique buckwheat honey rye ale. A single batch of this beer was brewed for hot summer days around Lucan. Buckwheat honey from South Dakota meets locally grown rye for a very original flavor. Very earthy and a bit dry."
From what I was told, there is about 50 lbs. of buckwheat honey and six percent rye in the batch.
Kind of a murky brownish yellow color with off-white one finger head.
A bit sour smelling. Sweet, light malt. A little bit of rye.
Very unique. Slightly sour, pretty sweet from the honey. Apparently buckwheat honey has a pretty unique flavor that lends to the sourness. Getting more of the rye towards the end. I could see this as being refreshing in the summer.
Light, pretty smooth. Slight sour aftertaste.
At it's peak, this beer would make a nice summer refresher. I think this sampling is past it's prime a bit. Still, a very unique beer that is well crafted. Unlike any beer I've had before. Glad I could try it.
