I have been having a pretty good time in concentrating on winnowing down the Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody, but I was disappointed that this one was a pop-top without a rebus puzzle on the underside of the cap.
From the bottle: "Cellar Series[:] Stegmaier's new Cellar Series is an innovative line-up of limited release, small batch brews. Crafted by our Master Brewer, these eccentric beers will be sure to please the most discerning craft beer lover."; "Pickin Peach Pale Ale uses 2-row, Munich, Asburne and Carapils malts with additions of the finest peach puree and a touch of local honey. Oak aged and single hopped using Summer hops, this unique beer is refreshing and flavorful with just the ight complexity to delight your senses."
The Pop! of the cap was less exciting than it might have been for the reason detailed above. I went with a gentle pour since there seemed to be an inherent cloudiness as viewed while still in the bottle. Once in the glass, I performed a swirl that raised a broef finger of foamy, fizzy, tawny head with limited retention. Color was a hazy Amber to Deep Amber/Light Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13). Nose smelled strongly not only of peaches, but also of honey. Hmmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was actually rather tart, reminiscent of Peach Lambic, but I was still getting a honey-like sweetness in the mouth. I swear, I JUST read the description on the label! This reminded me of one of those gummy sour peach candies (Peach Gummi Rings) alternating sweet & tart, not so much sour, with a consistent honey note throughout. Finish was semi-dry and lip-smacking, but it seemed like they were doing too many things at once with it. I think that the oak aging was a bit much where if they had just made an APA with peaches & honey, I would have like it more.
