Ran into this at the Great Lost Bear in Portland, ME. This shows a pitch black color with brown edges, a modest tan head and decent lace. It has a mild but pleasant chocolate grass hop and just a hint of charcoal. The flavor brings more malt and hop blend with less obvious chocolate. It's mildly carbonated with a smooth feel in a medium bodied porter that is a bit aqueous. Very drinkable with the hop character becoming more prominent as you go. Very solid porter, not overly chocolaty but entirely satisfying.

Reviewed from my notes, based on a growler provided by sigma23 and also split with deltatauhobbit. The beer fills my glass with its dark brown color. Atop my glass sits a light brown head full many bubbles. There isn't much to the aroma. Some grain and some chocolate malt. It's all a bit metallic. It has a smooth malt flavor. The chocolate aspects are more semi-sweet than dark. There is none of the bitterness you sometimes find in porters. Behind the chocolate is some roasted malt taste. It has a medium body, but it feels a bit watery. There's lots of coating that's a bit sticky. The beer goes down fairly well; it's just not my thing. One glass is enough for me.

Found this while up in Portland for the Maine marathon.
Clear dark brown with a large, crater laden, light brown head. Good retention and lace.
Aroma is of roast malt and chocolate: very solt and gentle. Got a few whiffs of some off vegetable scent. Taste is of Nestle's quick emitting from a decadently smooth mouthfeel. Uber silky.
Hooray Maine.

Picked this up at RSVP in Portland on 5/23/09.
This beer poured a deep, dark chocolate brown. A 1 finger deep tan head topped the beer. It slowly receded to a film leaving sheets of ringed beer lacing on the glass. Nose is of deep roasted malts, toffee and sweet chocolate. Taste is of sweet chocolate up front, balanced very well against some roasted malts, touch of toffee. The end finishes with a bitter chocolate that rounds the beer out nicely. This beer is on the lighter side of medium bodied, higher carbonation but works very well for this beer. This is a highly drinkable beer and I was pleasantly surprised with my first experience with this brewery.

Growler bought from Whole Foods.
Pours a dark brown/black color with some dark ruby hues when held up to the light, excellent amount of head that fades at a good rate to leave some lacing.
Smell is mostly roasted malt, not picking up any chocolate, slight burnt aroma.
Taste is also roasted malt with a slight burnt taste with a metallic twinge in the mouth, still not picking up any of the so-called chocolate, good carbonation amount.

Poured from a clear glass growler into a pint glass.
Appearance is nice and dark and the head is pretty nice. Nothing too carbonated but I nice thick head. I was impressed since the other FBC beers have not been that great.
Smells of chocolate malt and sweetness. The taste is like a nice sweet porter without a strong hop presence but it works well and I really enjoyed it.
I could have made my way through this growler in an evening no problem. It was a very drinkable porter and pretty inexpensive for the growler at RSVP.

A nice little winter brew. I bought a growler of this to watch the Pats-Chargers game for the AFC champ. and boy was I happy upon tasting it. The beer pours a deep chocolate color. Aromas are of toasted malt and bittersweet chocolate. In the mouth the beer is ultra clean, crisp and somewhat light in texture. Flavors are of sweet malt and roasted chocolate-very easy on the chocolate. This beer is easy to put down and highly drinkable. The sample I bought could not have been any fresher-a real treat!
