Dark brown burnt umber color; upon touching my glass BlackGold set forth a very foamy head- large bubbles almost like dish wash detergent. Then... flash, the head dissipated as if it's energy drained back to from whence it came..
Nice clean "friendly" mouthfeel; mild ale like hops bitterness flavor at the start, but not much else; flavor developed to a slight tart note, a possible hint of toasted malt and a flimsy foundation of the hops signature; cool clean flavor finish lasting as an ale characteristic. On the whole I'd declare this porter a generally one-dimensional flavored beer.

Black Gold poured an opaque black with a tan head that quickly disappeared to a thin ring around the edge of the glass. The aroma was roasted coffee and molasses with some notes of chocolate. The taste started with a rush of roasted malt and flavors of french roast coffee. This was followed by flavors of chocolate and some hints dried fruits and hops. The aftertaste was dry with a balance of bitter roasted flavors trading with slightly sweet malt and fruit flavors The mouthfeel was pleasantly smooth and refreshing.
Overall a very nice porter. Sharp roasted bitterness was its calling card. But this was pleasantly balanced with some sweetness to create an enjoyable experience. Worth having another round.
