The beer arrived on the table crystal clear brownish black, but not opaque. The head was well lasting and tan that laced the glass.

The aroma was chocolate with a slight smoky note, very slight. Also present was caramel and a slight fruitiness.

The flavor was caramel with light chocolate and just a very slight smoke character.

The finish was dry with slight smoke into the aftertaste with chocolate and caramel. The body was almost medium. This beer needs to be smoked up. Smoke it UP! The smoke level was just too low.

On tap at Brewpub. They called this their Hickory Smoked Beer, more of a brown than a porter.

Dark cola brown in color with a weak and loose head of off white, no lace.

Aromas are dark charred malts, cocoa, espresso, and a nutty smoky quality.

Flavor is typical porter, roasty malts, hints of cocoa, coffee, a distinct nuttyness, and light smokey nuances. Smoke is too light.

Body is light medium, with a thin and almost watery mouthfeel and an utter lack of carbonation. Not the best smoked beer I've had.

Appearance: A bit darker than their Brown Porter; small head and little lacing

Smell: Slightly smoky, fruity aroma

Taste: A combination of sweet chocolate and some light smoky flavors (which produces a distinct raspberry fruitiness) with a slightly bitter finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation

Drinkability: Nice flavor but a bit lighter in body than it should be

Color is a dark brown with some tinges of red. Head is slight. The Mash House website says that the brewer took the grains home and smoked them with Carolina hickory.

Smells of roasted and smoked malts, and some very slight hops. Not much else

Taste is similar to the smell. Some roasted malt is the only flavor I can really taste. Slight bitterness in the finish.

Body was medium and carbonation medium to medium high.

A little thin for a porter, and it could have used a little more smoked character. Give it a try, but don't expect it to be as good as some of their other specialties. Listed on the beer chalkboard as the current fruit beer...?

Also had this beer from a growler, and my comments were the same.
