Picked up a growler after dinner last night; I'm usually not a big schwarzbier fan but I was in the mood for something different and it's not real often I get to try fresh samples of the style. Pours a very dark cola color with a creamy cap of head. Nose is malt driven, with toasted chocolate annd caramel flavors and hints of nuts and smoke. Pleasant but not amazing.

Light in the mouth and surprisingly clean in the finish but tasty and very easy to drink. Malt is the engine but this also has a terrific creaminess to it that really slides down the throat thanks to low carbonation and quality ingredients. Maybe my favorite example of the style.

appearance: The pour produces a low, off white head that soon totally disappears. The beer is a nutty medium-dark brown in color.

smell: Slightly nutty with a light sweetness. Some lightly toasted grain. Light noble hop aroma. A little boring in the aroma department.

mouthfeel: The carbonation is at the lower end of the medium range, a little sharp for me. The body is pushing in to the medium range, but with a lighter feel to it.

taste: There is a light malty sweetness with hints of light toasted grain, dark whole grain, and a slight nuttiness. There is a light bitterness and little hop flavor.

drinkability: easy to drink, but nothing special

Nice looking black schwarzbier. Flavor is big dark caramel with some hints of smoke. The flavor is a little thin for a schwarz. I've seen schwarzbiers that make up for being lagers with a little flavor, but this one doesn't
