A difficult beer to classify. The color is black with ruby highlights but theres nothing here remotely suggesting a link to the porter or stout family. Most likely Blackout is a pale or mild bitter with a light addition of roasted barley. In the absence of a black ale category, I've listed it here with reservations as a black and tan.
Blackout's flavor is timid, the aroma absent, and the body runs fairly thin. A modest malt/bitter interplay is noted and no brewing problems are manifest. Described on the beer board as the second best way to enjoy a power outage. Neither a standout nor a strikeout. Just a Blackout.
