The initial flavor of this nitro-infused oatmeal stout is one of exceptional roastiness suggesting a strong use of black patent malts. The uncommon abundance of strong roasted grains simply cant be ignored. This searing potency does tend to fade before mid-pint, but even so, 4-Alarm is memorable for its peak expression. The aroma is considerably more modest in comparison to its taste, which is complimented by a light splash of chocolate.
My understanding is that 4-Alarm is actually brewed by Powerhouses sister brewery, Engine House No. 9. It is fairly low suds for a nitro pour, but all-in-all, a solid beer.
