On cask into pint glass.
By the time the glass reached the table the head had already settled to about a half-finger in height, with a tan color. It eventually settled to a thin even cap. The aromas were loaded with burnt caramel, a bit of cocoa, and a bit of alcohol. The feel was very syrupy but velvety at the same time, which seemed to highlight the chocolate and roasted malt flavors (again with a touch of caramel). The alcohol is perceived, especially as the beer warms.
I've had this on cask and on regular CO2 tap, and I have to say the cask really makes this beer better (although it's good to begin with). Recommended.

Coppery hue with a lasting head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of toffee malt, hint of peat moss, floral hops, heather, currant, anise, and some cardboardy oxidation. The taste is very fruity and malty sweet with just a note of grassy bitters. Finishes off with a mild peppery and clove experience. The mouth feel is smooth and lively. A good quaffable example but not a major challenge to the palate.

Appearance: Arrives at the table with a cloudy root beer color and a modest head that quickly disappears without a trace
Smell: Toffee and plum with a hint of rum-soaked raisins
Taste: Almost a butter brickle flavor up front with a touch of raisin; after the swallow, it becomes even fruitier with a plummy character
Mouthfeel: Moderate to full bodied but, oh my, is this undercarbonated, even for a cask ale
Drinkability: Nicely flavored but the lack of carbonation is a real detractor to its drinkability
