Had on tap at the brewpub poured into a 16oz English pint glass. This particular Russian Imperial Stout was brewed with a local home brewer and member of the local home brewing clubs the Worthogs and B.U.R.P. This is an award winning recipe and the Best of Show for the local Spirit of Free Beer competition held in 2004. This brew pours a dark murky black color with a two-finger head that fizzles quick but retains very nice lacing throughout the session. The nose picks up roasted barley, dark chocolate, light florals, and flaked oats. Taste consists of English pale, crystal, black and brown malts then further additions of roasted barley and flaked oats. Medium bodied and good carbonation throughout. Very tasty beer of the bunch at Vintage 50 for the style!

Cask into pint glass.
Came in a pint glass, pitch black with a very thin brown head that settled to a thick rim along the glass. The aroma was slight sweeter, with heavy roasty aromas (includes roasted barley), molasses, and a little dark fruit. The flavor has some slightly sweet characteristics to complement the roasted malts, and the cask pour really brings out the chocolate flavors. A little dark coffee in the middle. Hop bitterness is on the low end, this one is more of a malt lover's RIS.
What an incredibly enjoyable beer. Packed full of malts and extremely drinkable and smooth.
