Kong Havtorn is a flavoursome New England IPA with a wonderful aroma of flowers, fruit and citrus. This comes partly from the three different kinds of hop and the sea buckthorn juice we use in the beer. The beer is a beautiful golden, almost yellowish colour with a misty quality due to the wheat malt, oatmeal and dried hops we add to the brew. The taste features many of the same notes as the aroma - an alluring harmony of sea buckthorn, citrus and exotic fruits, which is gentler on the taste buds than the more bitter IPAs.
Kong Havtorn was developed in collaboration with the Maltkings brewing team in Køge.

Copenhagen 24/4 2021. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh. Ø. Orange and yellow label with a crown and a lot of buckthorn berries. King Buckthorn indeed.
Pours murky orange with a small white head. Settles as thin rim of foam running along the side of the glass. No lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with light sweet fruity odor mingling with harsher scent of buckthorn. More subdued citric notes. Peach and sweet berries. Harsh buckthorn. Light citrus.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a light sweetness followed by a medium strong rough bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter and a bit harsh. Finish is semi-dry with a tang of buckthorn.
Not much NEIPA in this brew. And you have to be into Buckthorn to enjoy it.
