The Funen Championship in the light category in hand brewing 2021 was won by Jens Christian Gam-Hadberg with his version of the German beer style Kölsch. The prize was to brew the beer at Ørbæk Bryggeri, and it has now become the beer Ørbæk Ølsch.
The Kölsch style comes from the area around Cologne and is a pilsner/ale hybrid with light malts like a pilsner but brewed with ale yeast. This gives a fresh, easy-drinking beer with notes of banana and clove from the yeast and floral and fruity notes from the German Hersbrucker hops.
Best enjoyed with: The German sausage table, grilled chicken, fish and dishes with shellfish.

Copenhagen 23/9 2022. 50 cl bottle from SuperBrugsen, Nørrebrogade, Kbh. N. Light blue label with a sketchy drawing of Church Spires.
Pours slightly unclear golden yellow with a mid-sized white head. Settles as thin, patchy layer of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet malty odor with a sharp sourish scent. Sweet pale malts, cardboard, sour grains.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a rather strong sweetness followed by a more moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish and lingers for a bit. Finish is semi-dry.
More a sweet Lager beer than a Kölsch.
