Bygvin is a beer with the alcohol strength and character of a wine. A full-bodied and warming beer in which you can taste the malt as the only base for the alcohol. The hops in this beer contribute fresh notes of passion fruit and citrus fruits as well as a hint of dark berries and pine needles. This is complemented by oak aging, which provides notes of nuts and vanilla both from the wood itself and the heat treatment of the wood. The beer is also rich in tannins, which come from both the hops and the oak, and give the beer a depth that is only otherwise found in wood-aged wine. Try it with flavorful dishes with red meat, game or well-seasoned stews.

Copenhagen 21/1 2023. 75 cl corked bottle from Meny, Rotunden, Hellerup. Siple white label with detailed information about yeast and hops. Serious like a bottle of cough drops at the Pharmacy.
Pours unclear amber with a mid-sized white head. Settles as thin patch of foam struggling to cover the surface of he beer. Clinging to the sides of the glass. No lacing.
Aroma is fairly intense with a vinous, sugary sweet odor mingling with a liqueur-like boozy scent. Caramel, toffee and brown sugar. Bread and grains. Peach and marzipan. Almond liqueur.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, greasy, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is rather intense with a strong sweetness followed by a moderate grainy sourness. Aftertaste is sweet with an insistent boozy undertone. Lingering. Finish is rather dry.
Wholesome, potent Barley wine. Sweet and liqueur-like.
