Sampled April 30th at the Tied House, review from notes.

Transparent dark ruby highlights, average head retention, no real lace, flecks of foam remain on the glass after a sip. Slim cap of foam that fades to a broken skim and ring around the edges after a few minutes.

Muted aroma with some traces of dark fruit and butteriness. Not really roasty at all, which was a bad sign.

Fairly astringent and fruity, thin bodied, dominant notes of anisette liqueur, with a vaguely musty earthiness in the aftertaste. Again, not especially roasty, more thin and fruity. Doesn't strike me as an Oatmeal Stout, seemingly more Belgian inspired than anything (intentional or not). Wondering if this was starting to turn... Not something i'd try again.

Sampled 10/9/2010 at the brewpub.

Pours dark brown/black, hazy, tan head, not much lacing or retention.

Aroma is toffee, oats, and roast.

Flavor is toffee/caramel, sugar, hint of oatmeal, roast, too sweet but not bad over all. Low/medium bitterness.

Body is a bit heavier than an easy drinking oatmeal stout should be. Contains moderate amounts of drinkability.

Tick.
