As brewers adjust to the ongoing hops shortage, new low-hop recipes such as this are gaining greater prominence. Square Four is patterned on an English pale ale recipe and is apparently named for a vintage British motorcycle. It sports a beaming white head, thin but with widespread lace, and a bright yellow, densely hazed body. Its aroma is hard to locate but is vaguely grainy and dry. The flavor is crisp, suggesting a possible use of torrified wheat.
Square Four delivers a cereal graininess that is dry, crisp, and refreshing. Hops provide balance only and contribute little forward flavor. No great drama here, but a clean and agreeable pale with thirst quenching appeal.
