I picked this one up as a souvenir on my recent trip to Stratford-upon-Avon, without having consulted any reviews. Let's see if that one D+ stands as the average. Poured into a wine glass.

A: Clear ruddy brown body under an inch of fine tan foam. Mediocre retention, spotty lace. Not terrible at all.

S: Caramel malt, cakey spice, overripe apple. Pretty mediocre, but not bad.

T: Sweet caramel and toffee up front, with some dark fruit and brown sugar adding even more sweetness on the slightly boozy finish. Way too sweet, but there's nothing about this than seems off. I'm rather enjoying it.

M: Slightly thin body with lots of carbonation - the bubbles start out somewhat sharp but quickly become nicely rich and creamy. Enjoyable.

O: While this was by no means an excellent example of the Dubbel style, it was a thoroughly respectable brew. I fully expected it to be a thin, putrid, gimmicky mess, but found it to be an entirely drinkable beer. They certainly could have done better with the Shakespeare puns on the label (I once did a forum post that was much more complete and, I like to think, creative), but I'm happy I made the purchase.

Cheers!

Appearance: Deep chestnut brown in colour, with nice fluffy off-white head, and not much carbonation at all.

Aroma: The aromas aren't that strong. There is a grainy scent, with some raisin and hints of cherry.

Taste: Strange sour taste at the front, with slightly acidic lemon. The fruit doesn't come through as much as the nose, however there is a slight touch cherry.

Mouthfeel: Quite thin and watery, not what I was expecting from a dubbel.

Drinkability: Doesn't taste like a traditional Belgian dubbel, but it has its moments. Not the best beer I have had from the Tunnel brewery.
