Trying the Indie pale ale at the smoke house. It poured a hazy golden with white head that is leaving a lace. The scent had pine and citrus. The taste was nicely balanced for an ipa with bitterness stemming from pine and citrus. The Mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall this is a good beer and worth a try .

Had on tap at Barley's Smokehouse and Brewpub

A - Pours a bit of a hazy copper. Head is fluffy and off-white, decent retention and lacing on the glass.

S - Good blend of pine and grapefruit hops here. Not a ton of malt present in the aroma, but hints of orange, zest, and some lemon are present. Definitely like the hop profile here.

T - It definitely has that West Coast feel. Hops, again, are strong, but blended very nicely. It's got a bit of piney resin, but it's balanced by a nice sweetness from the grapefruit and orange. Very good taste.

M - It's a dry finish, the mouthfeel is full and robust. Light carbonation that leaves it very smooth.

Overall - An impressive IPA definitely one of the best brews at Barley's, a solid West-Coast interpretation of the IPA.

Left Coast Indie Pale Ale is copper in color. Looks just a bit hazy. Backlighting gives it a slight orange tint. A soft, off-white head collects on the surface. It rises to nearly a finger in depth before falling quickly. A moderate web of sticky lace was left trailing behind.

It smells good. This one definitely has a west coast hop presence. It features a nice blend of citric and piney hops. The fruity notes smell mostly like grapefruit and orange. There’s no questioning its hop-forwardness. There’s a bit of light caramel and perhaps pale malts anchoring things down. Doesn’t smell like it’s too balanced though. Hops win the day. Alcohol is not noticeable at all.

The flavor delivers! This is good stuff. The malt base seems mostly pale. There might be a little caramel for good measure. It’s a little sweet and sugary. Hops are very strong and flavorful. They add quality citrus grapefruit, orange, and mango flavors. A touch of pine follows. It has a really nice bitter kick. It’s definitely hop forward and west coast in that regard. Alcohol is blended extremely well and goes mostly unnoticed. Finishes hoppy, bitter, and dry. Nicely done.

The mouthfeel is nothing short of excellent. It has a really nice medium body and light carbonation. Very svelte and smooth. Love the feel. This stuff goes down far too smooth and easy. I won’t finish the growler tonight, but it’s tempting.

I was curious to see what Barley’s would do without Scott Francis overseeing their brewing. If Left Coast Indie Pale Ale is any indication, expect good things to come. This is an interesting IPA release from Barley’s in that it’s more American (and less Eurpoean) than their other IPAs. Good move. I was apprehensive as to how it’d turn out, but it really is a nice west coast style IPA. The hop flavor is very bold and flavorful. Not much to complain about here. Very good stuff. Looking forward to more!
