Ahhh Big Boss IPA's...never seem to let me down.
I was very excited to try the first brew in the series of High Roller II, and for good reason. A beauty in the pint glass, this beer sat with a hazy, orange copper body. The eggshell head retained quite well and left decent lacing. Aroma was fantastic: resinous, pine hops dominated the fragrance while a nice balance of citrus and caramel malts enticed the olfaction.
Tasty, this beer was. Grapefruit and tangerine contributed to the citrus hop profile, while a nice malty balance quickly came into play. A sharp, acerbic bitterness bit the back of the palate, reminding me of the high Alpha Acid hops used in this brew. An excellent mouthfeel prevailed, with a near-perfect carbonation level, medium body, and a phenomenal aftertaste that lingered for days on end. What really got me about Big Boss' High Roller II was the drinkability. For a 7.8% ABV IIPA, the alcohol was barely detectable, until you finished off the third pint. Worth the $5.00 charge? Certainly. Would I buy it again? Absolutely.

a: The beer is a deep, glowing amber-orange, very hazy...some don't like that, but whatever. Comes in a standard pint with a 0.5" head. Moderate retention and lacing.
s: Big aromas of tropical, evergreen NW hops over a full base of sweet caramel malts. Pulpy, dripping green hops.
m: Carbonation on the low side of medium and very smooth. On the IPA/DIPA scale, the body is pretty full...almost a little too heavy.
t: Love the big malt presence in combination with the dripping, juicy West Coast hop presence. Heavy on the caramel and bordering on too sweet for me, but the hops really make up for it. An explosion of evergreen and then tropical fruits on the tongue. Bitterness is huge.
d: A very nice beer, but drinkability is certainly limited. What I like to call a "dirty" IPA...in that it's not that refined, the malts come across full and grainy, with a small batch character.
