Copenhagen 18/11 2016. 50 cl bottle from Meny, Østerfælled Torv, Kbh. Ø. As "End 31 Export Stout". Label with blue ornaments and assurance that this beer is based on a historic recipe.

Pours dark brown with red tinge and light beige head. Settles as thin almost transparent layer of foam. Thin lacing on the side of the glass.

Aroma is intense. Coffee, dark chocolate, brown sugar and toffee. Alcohol lurking in the background.

Soft carbonation and surprisingly watery palate. Oily and a bit flat.

Flavor is medium sweet followed by quite massive and pronounced coffee bitterness. Bitter aftertaste. Lingering.

The body is a bit thin but nice aroma and taste. And it carries a punch.

A: Black with a small cream-coloured head.
S: Weak, but fudgey with a little bit of fruit.
T: Very interesting. Has the conspicuous fruit of a mild but otherwise resembles a decent export stout. It's slightly sweet, grassy, earthy, smokey, and fudge-like. Liquorice in there too. Just wish the fizz was slightly softer.
O: A very interesting tasting beer, ever so slightly let down by the slightly too zingy carbonation. I bet it's amazing on cask.
