Got this beer at the rate of four beers for a fiver from my nearest Young's pub in East End London, the Coborn Arms. The barman told me it's brewed for the cricket season and I was pretty much un-touched, as I still have little idea about what the whole sport is about. But given an option of trying this beer at 1.25 rather than 1.65/69 pounds a bottle in a supermarket, I was happy enough to bring it back home...
Appearance: it pours a clear, amber hue with a white, thin, but rather foamy beerhead which lasts for a short while~~
Aroma: the nose is Fuggles(?)-orientated hoppy--softly herbal-like, and not over-the-top, underlined with a fruity/citrusy hoppy note at the back and softly hayish flavour as well. Not too complex, yet pleasant.
Taste: at first there is very soft, pale-malt on the palate, followed by a faint taste of dryish but mild bitterness of citrusy hops, and finished with a "minimalist" aftertaste of anything at all?! Just when I wonder why it could be the case, the second sip points to the same observation... The residual aftertaste of hops rings a bell of Young's Bitter and Special, but much more understated than those two, though it might be more refreshingly clean.
Mouthfeel & Drinkability: the beer is light-bodied, with overly simple structure and definitely boring flavour. It's not a "bad", or below-average, beer in any sense, but too timid (apart from the nose) when compared to all other cask-brews by the Young's. Since I don't play cricket or watch cricket matches, I am probably "stripped of" any excuse to buy it again...

A good picnic beer, this. Pours a mid golden amber in appearance, with an off white head, leaving beads of lacing down the glass.
Aroma is hoppy, a little citrussy, with biscuity malt and buttery notes at the end.
The taste is of biscuity malts, buttery and oaty flapjack notes and a general 'summery' feel. Hoppy finish. Very thirst quenching.
Nice mouthfeel, would definitely be nice in the summer while watching the cricket at Lord's. Drinks really well.

Having been to the Lords Cricket ground, i was psyched to try it (well, not really). Why didn;t they sell this at the English v. South Africa game? I mean its named after the Cricket Ground for gods sakes! All there was was Fosters, Johns Smiths and Guinness, which was dissapointing. Pretty boring English Pale Ale, not much happening. Light hits of caramel/toffee and some green citrusy hops at the end, kind of refreshing, but pretty void of flavour.

when i saw youngs lords beer it reminded me that here in australia, cricket season is upon us again. im a sucker for any offering from youngs, and the thought of trying a brew designed to be drank during long hours in the hot sun watching a test match got me in totally.
nice color for a bitter lager, robust golden hue with an eniticing beady white head that went quite rocky for the style. aromas very subdued, a little disappointing. tinges of malt, some floral hops and a traces of lemon, nothing to rock your world tho. flavor is clean and slightly understated, nice malts, a dried peel zing and bitter but not dry finish. light bodied without being weak, and when ice cold does not leave that astringent aftertaste a lot of bitters can do. definately not a complex beer, especially compared to most others in the youngs range.
i like this beer solely because it is perfect for what it was made for. when youve settled in for a long stint in the stands for a days cricket, and you need a thirst quenching quaffer thats not too potent in flavor and AV, but dont want to put up with swill, this is the beer. you can drink a half dozen or more of these and not end up totally wasted. if only CUB could look and learn from a beer like this, id go to the cricket more often. i prefer to watch it at home coz i can drink what i like there instead of forcing down carlton draught and feeling violently ill (sometimes just violent) at the end of the days play.
lords beer is definately a brew that would have me cheering for whats happening on the pitch, and whats happening in my cup! smart thinking once again from the boys at youngs.
