Tasted this beer by half-pint last Sunday at my local Young's pub. At first I hesitated a bit, perhaps I was not used to the idea of this traditional English beer brewery to mimick something widely available at huge risk to its own reputation... or perhaps I thought too much. For, it's at least not brewing some foreign beer "under license" (as so many sad stories in this country we have witnessed...), so it's genuine in itself anyway.

The beer pours a very pale-straw colour, with abundant fizz and minimum rimmed beerhead... nothing beautiful really. The nose is very mildly lemony hoppy, against the undertone of malts which suggests the kind of sharp edge of honey-drink my granny used to make for me. Not too bad but, again, nothing special here. The taste is slightly better--lemony upfront, followed by a grassy, or even a little peppery, citrusy-zesty bitter flavour and a very clean, medium-dry bitter finish. The overall mouthfeel is smooth, making it a very easy-drinking beer. But the lack of body and its unbalanced taste are unmissable. It's not something I'd go for again at any Young's pub, as it has so many better beers to offer...

The foam is white, large and compact. The colour is almost glowing yellow.

The smell is very much Pilsener. Some of the flavours that I noticed were citrus, dill, dry grass and hops.

The carbonation is strong with big bubbles, just like it should be.

The taste is full of a quickly passing bitterness. I came to think of lots of different thins: Hard cheese, sparkling lemonade, hay, and lime. The dry bitter aftertaste fades speedily, making this a good beer for hot summer days.

I would never have guessed that this beer came from Britain.

Sampled on tap at Morpeth Arms in London.

This pilsner poured a clear, gold color with white foam that settled to a thin layer. There was a decent active carbonation. The smell was very mild but some fruity hops could be detected. The taste was mildly malty with a bit of floral hops and some bitter hops in the finish. There was a touch of fruitiness. The body was medium-light with good carbonation. There was a mild, lingering hoppy flavor. This was a fairly good, though light, pilsner (Czech style).

Draught @ Papago
Straight from the tap this rather rare beer here in the states, and to be quite honest, I don’t remember if I saw it more than once or twice in England.

On the pour slightly hazy amber color, the head portly in size and frothy in its texture, the color off white. Nose is sweet malt, very fresh and clean to the senses, rather sweet at the start, nicely malted with the top middling in its feel. Finish is delicately acidic and the hops quite pleasant in their spiciness, a good representative to the style, and I must say a pilsner I found quite tolerable.
