I picked up a bottle of Tri-City's Ideal Party Store Select Series #3 a couple weeks ago for 7.99 at Ideal Party Store. This one caught my eye when I was looking for some new beers to try, I haven't had any of the other beers in this series, but I thought I would take a chance on this one, so lets see how it goes. No visible bottling date. Poured from a brown 22oz bottle int a snifter.

A- The label looks ok, the design it decent, but it's not too eye catching. It poured a muddy orange brown color that took on more of an orange hue when held to the light with pretty much no head and no lacing. This isn't a good looking beer.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with a fruity apple juice aroma being the first to show up and it's followed by the Kentucky Bourbon Barrels which seems to stick out the most and they impart some oak, bourbon and light vanilla aromas with the bourbon seeming to stick out the most. It's got a decent aroma, but I wish the base beer brought more to the table.

T- The taste seems to be pretty similar to the aroma and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness that is right on the border of being highly sweet with bourbon barrels being the first to show up and it imparts the same aspects that it did in the aroma with bourbon still sticking out the most. Up next comes the alcohol which is on the lighter side, but it's still a little warming and it's followed by some fruity ale yeast flavors with some apple juice and raisin flavors sticking out the most. On the finish there's no bitterness with some sweetness taking it's place with a nice bourbon barrel aftertaste The taste is decent, but it's pretty one noted.

M- Fairly smooth, sweet, no crisp at all, medium bodied with no carbonation. The mouthfeel isn't that great and it could use some work.

Overall I thought this was a decent beer and I thought it was a pretty average example of the style, it had some decent flavors and aromas, but the mouthfeel, carbonation and the lack of the base beer really held this beer back and it prevented it from being as good as it could be. This beer had ok drinkability, but one glass is enough for me, I don't have the urge to drink another one. What I like the most about this beer was the bourbon barrel aspects. What I like the least about this beer was the lack of carbonation and that the base beer didn't really show up. I wouldn't buy this beer again and I wouldn't recommend it. All in all this beer wasn't completely bad, but it had some bad aspects that really held it back. It's not a favorite from this brewery and it's average at best for the style. I appreciate the effort, but this beer needs some work.
